Key points

  • Seeing a visitor, authorising a visit and unlocking are separate steps.
  • Your parent retains a choice; failures and physical door actions still need attention.

1. Start with agreement, not the camera

Ask what help your parent actually wants: viewing a visitor on their screen, asking for advice or occasionally delegating an unlocking action. Agree who may see images and who may operate the lock. These need not be the same people. Also decide when help is available, how to refuse it and how access will be withdrawn.

Agreeing to equipment is not permission to admit every visitor. Establish a simple signal for each situation: a call from your parent, spoken confirmation or an explicit arrangement for a particular appointment. If a free and understood choice cannot be obtained, clarify the support and representation framework with appropriate professionals. Technology does not resolve that question.

2. Establish whether the video installation is acceptable

In France, the CNIL says a private individual may film only within their property and must respect neighbours’ and visitors’ privacy (La vidéosurveillance, vidéoprotection – chez soi | CNIL). A peephole viewing a shared corridor is not automatically permitted because it helps an older person. Describe requested local viewing, remote live viewing, audio and automatic recording separately before having the proposal assessed.

If shared areas are captured, consult the building manager and seek legal or CNIL clarification where needed. Do not activate the camera on the assumption that family consent is sufficient. The CNIL apartment-building factsheet checked labels itself obsolete and is not our basis for permission (La vidéosurveillance – vidéoprotection dans les immeubles d'habitation | CNIL). For professionals working in the home, the CNIL requires information about cameras and their purpose; workers must not be filmed continuously while doing their job (La vidéosurveillance, vidéoprotection – chez soi | CNIL).

3. An understandable setup: two separate apps

A documented example, not a tested installation: the DP2C provides a video call through the EZVIZ app when a visitor presses its doorbell (EZVIZ - L’écosystème de la maison connectée). A fifth-generation Nuki Pro supports remote operation through built-in Wi-Fi, with Remote Access included (Nuki | Smart Lock Pro | Buy Smart Locks & accessories online | Nuki The Smart Lock). These facts do not establish integration between the devices. In this routine, the helper views the visitor in EZVIZ, then separately opens the Nuki app if authorised to act.

Check that the helper has manufacturer-supported video access and an individual Nuki permission. Nuki documents access rights by person, schedule and duration (Nuki | Nuki app and Nuki Web for smart access management | Nuki The Smart Lock). Do not exchange administrator credentials to save a step. The current Go requires a separate Remote Access purchase; older generations may have other requirements (Nuki | Remote access | Control your Smart Lock from anywhere | Nuki The Smart Lock ; Nuki | Smart Lock Go | Buy Smart Locks & accessories online | Nuki The Smart Lock). The camera does not provide the lock’s Internet connection.

4. For each visit: identify, ask and then act

When an alert arrives, check that it concerns the correct door and a current conversation, not an old capture. Speak with the visitor and establish the purpose of the visit. A familiar face, badge or uniform is not sufficient. For a professional visit, check the appointment and, if uncertain, use a previously known contact for the organisation rather than relying only on a number supplied at the door.

Then contact your parent and obtain the agreed permission for this visit. Silence, a missed notification or pressure from the visitor is not consent. If checks fail, do not unlock; arrange another way to make contact. Once permission is established, select the correct lock in Nuki and deliberately choose the action appropriate to the verified installation. Motion detection or image recognition must not trigger unlocking in this scenario.

5. Unlocking does not complete the whole journey

Someone may still need to operate a handle, push or pull the door and let the visitor through. A Nuki operates the lock, not the door leaf. Try the entire routine with your parent in their normal position without putting them at risk. Check screen comprehension, hearing, control reach and the ability to communicate a refusal.

After the command, confirm with your parent that the visit went as intended and the door was closed again. An app status or action log does not prove who entered or that someone is well. If the real requirement is fall detection or continuous emergency support, seek an appropriate service: this arrangement is not a replacement for telecare.

6. Plan failures and costs before the first trial

Assign responsibility for charging the camera and lock, updates and accounts. Use phone screen locks, unique account passwords and available additional account protections. Check Wi-Fi with the door closed and notifications on the helper’s phone. Router failure may remove remote assistance; another phone cannot fix a lock with no power. Outside-key operation depends on a suitable emergency-function cylinder and must be checked on the installation (Nuki | Smart Lock Pro | Buy Smart Locks & accessories online | Nuki The Smart Lock). Arrange an agreed local helper and a usable backup, without bypass procedures.

Budget separately for the camera, storage and any subscription, and for the Nuki and installation. EZVIZ cloud availability varies by market and the local card is purchased separately (EZVIZ - L’écosystème de la maison connectée). For the lock alone, TFK advertises installation from €189 including VAT for a customer-supplied Nuki, following a video assessment or WhatsApp photos. The final price is quoted; one year of installation and workmanship aftercare concerns defects attributable to TFK (Nuki smart lock installation in Paris | TFK). This does not include peephole fitting or family monitoring services.

Plan the Nuki installation with your parent’s agreement

Tell TFK the Paris area, the Nuki model you will supply and the door actions to assess. With the occupant’s agreement, general door photos or a WhatsApp video assessment can support diagnosis and the quote; do not send medical records or access codes. Installation only starts at €189 incl. VAT, with the final price quoted and one year of installation and workmanship aftercare for defects attributable to TFK. Video equipment and monitoring are not included in that price.

Frequently asked questions

Can everything happen inside the Nuki app?

We do not claim that for these devices. DP2C video is documented in EZVIZ, and lock operation in Nuki. This routine uses two apps and assumes no camera-to-Nuki integration.

May I unlock if my parent does not answer?

Not merely because of silence or an image. Follow only an explicit and appropriate authorisation framework. If an emergency is suspected, contact the relevant emergency services rather than improvising an unlocking rule.
