Key points

  • Two documented EZVIZ references, with different levels of commercial evidence.
  • Yale alternatives show why a digital screen is not the same as remote connectivity.

1. The checks that rule out a poor purchase

Start with the camera view: the CNIL limits private individuals’ home cameras to their own property (La vidéosurveillance, vidéoprotection – chez soi | CNIL). A wider angle is not automatically better beside a shared landing. Requested live viewing and automatic recording differ, but that distinction alone does not authorise a device. If communal space is captured, seek an assessment before buying; the CNIL apartment-building factsheet labels itself obsolete (La vidéosurveillance – vidéoprotection dans les immeubles d'habitation | CNIL).

Next check the existing opening diameter, door thickness, indoor clearance, networking and actual users. Higher resolution cannot compensate for an unreadable screen or missed notifications. Ask for the complete model reference, return terms, software support period and storage charges. Do not alter a fire-rated or other technical door based solely on universal-fit marketing.

2. EZVIZ DP2C: the connected option with an indoor display

The French page specifies 1080p video, a 4.3-inch colour display, a 155° view, two-way communication and live viewing through the EZVIZ app (EZVIZ - L’écosystème de la maison connectée). The doorbell is built into the peephole unit: a product can combine both categories. An active French store listing was also retrieved (EZVIZ - L’écosystème de la maison connectée). This documents a displayed offer, not guaranteed stock or delivery to your address.

The manufacturer specifies door thickness of 35–105 mm, an opening of 16.5–50 mm, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and a rechargeable 4,600 mAh battery. The memory card is separate. The current page lists up to 512 GB and says older units need current firmware for that capacity (EZVIZ - L’écosystème de la maison connectée). Consider it for indoor viewing plus remote calls, after checking coverage and reception. Its advertised 90-day standby figure comes from laboratory conditions and is not a battery-life promise for your home.

3. EZVIZ DP2 2K: a documented comparison, subject to availability

French support lists the DP2 2K and links its official datasheet (DP2 2K - Assistance produit - Assistance EZVIZ ; EZVIZ DP2 2K datasheet, CS-DP2-R100-6E3WPFBS). This describes a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen, 2K/3 MP resolution, a 166° diagonal view, the EZVIZ app, local and remote video intercom and a 4,600 mAh battery. It supports a microSD card up to 512 GB and subscription-based CloudPlay storage where available.

This supports a technical comparison with the DP2C, not a claim that French stock is available. We did not confirm a current French sale for the exact reference. Ask the seller for its model code, matching manual and local support arrangements; do not treat every DP2-labelled device as identical. A touchscreen may suit some people better than others. That needs a real usability check, not an inference from pixel count.

4. Yale 500 and 5800: alternatives not to mistake for connected devices

The white Yale 500, reference 45-0500-1432-00-5011, was marked in stock on the French store when checked. Its page explicitly describes standalone operation without Internet and button-activated viewing (Judas de porte numérique - Série 500 - Blanc). It is relevant for someone who wants to see from indoors without a remote account, not for a relative needing video elsewhere. Stock status is a dated observation and must be checked again before payment.

The bronze Yale 5800, reference 45-5800-1443-00-0211, was also marked in stock. Its page documents a 4.3-inch screen, motion detection and local recording to an included 4 GB SD card (Judas de porte numérique - 5800-Laiton - Boîte suspendue). That page does not establish remote video functionality, so we do not shortlist it as a connected option for a distant helper. Automatic recording requires particular care over camera coverage and retention. No cloud does not mean no privacy implications.

5. Why not add Ring, the DP1C and Brinno to the ranking?

The Ring Peephole Cam product addresses checked did not provide a usable French product page. That does not establish permanent discontinuation or absence from every retailer; it means we cannot recommend a new purchase on that incomplete evidence. For the EZVIZ DP1C, we did not obtain sufficient current primary evidence to assert availability and precise functions.

Brinno still documents the SHC1000W, including image capture, local storage and image delivery by email or app (SHC1000W Motion Plus Peephole DoorCam - Brinno). This alone does not establish a live video conversation comparable with the DP2C. Current French distribution and app support remain unverified. Explicit limits are more useful than an artificially long list of supposedly best products.

6. Make the decision around function, full cost and fallback

For indoor viewing only, start with a local option such as the Yale 500. For a screen plus remote conversation, investigate the DP2C. For the DP2 2K, first obtain confirmation of sale and support for the exact reference. Budget for power, a memory card, any subscription and maintenance. Protect accounts, minimise sharing and check reception with the door closed.

None of these products is declared here to offer integrated Nuki operation. Our family-access guide instead describes separate video and unlocking apps, with separate decisions. TFK’s installation-only starting price of €189 including VAT applies to your customer-supplied Nuki, quoted after assessment, not to the peepholes in this selection (Nuki smart lock installation in Paris | TFK).

Does your project also include a Nuki lock?

Tell TFK your Paris area and the Nuki model you will supply. General door photos or a WhatsApp video assessment can support the diagnosis and quote; do not share codes or key profiles. Nuki installation only starts at €189 incl. VAT, with a final quote and one year of installation and workmanship aftercare for defects attributable to TFK. This amount is not a peephole or camera installation offer.

Frequently asked questions

Which device could help a relative remotely?

Among the products verified here, the DP2C documents an indoor screen and remote video calls. This does not validate coverage at your relative’s home or a Nuki integration. The Yale 500 does not meet the remote requirement.

Why is the DP2 2K recommendation conditional?

Its technical documentation and French support entry were verified, but current French retail availability was not. An accessible manual does not establish stock.
