Key points

  • Separate permissions are easier to manage than indiscriminate shared access.
  • Automation and logs should serve the people living in the home.

1. Give people access, not everyone the same account

Nuki documents individual permissions that can be time-limited (Nuki App & Web). A household member might need ongoing access; a scheduled visitor may only need a suitable window. The practical benefit is being able to change one permission without disrupting everybody else's. These are organisational choices, not a universal configuration for every property.

Avoid circulating a single administrator login among occupants and service providers. Decide who manages permissions and who can stand in during an absence. Also explain how to request removal of an access right that is no longer needed, such as when a service arrangement ends.

2. Choose a control each person can actually use

The app is not the only everyday option: Nuki documents the Fob and compatible keypads. Some keypad versions support fingerprints; do not assume every model does (Nuki App & Web ; Nuki — local access). Before choosing equipment for a child or relative, try the proposed control under normal conditions: hands occupied, landing lighting, keeping the Fob handy or reading the keypad.

Auto Unlock and Auto Lock appear in the documentation (Nuki App & Web), but availability does not establish suitability. Begin with an intentional, understood action. Enable automation only after checking its behaviour and settings in your own setup. If it creates confusion, there is no reason to keep it simply because it exists.

3. Know which tasks depend on Internet access

Operating the lock nearby over Bluetooth and opening it for someone from another location are different tasks. Nuki describes the first as local, even during an Internet outage, provided the authorised device and lock are operational (Nuki — local access). Remote operation needs an available remote configuration.

Remote Access is included on the current fifth-generation Pro and Ultra and offered separately for the Go (Nuki Go ; Nuki Pro (5th Gen) ; Nuki — Remote Access). Nuki Web requires an account and remote access; push notifications also have documented prerequisites (Nuki App & Web). If someone relies on remote opening, plan for a failed attempt too: a reachable contact and local backup.

4. Keep the activity log in perspective

Nuki says the log records the time, user and function used (Nuki — data protection). An action attributed to a permission does not establish who physically crossed the doorway, how many people entered, or whether someone is well. It is neither a medical alarm nor general proof of presence.

Explain what is recorded and who can view it. For professional use or managing access for others, the French CNIL's principles of purpose limitation, minimisation, transparency and limited retention provide a framework to apply to your situation (CNIL — RGPD). Do not turn a log into undisclosed monitoring of relatives or home workers.

5. Plan the routine tasks that remain

Someone still needs to monitor power, carry out updates and remove expired access rights. The current Go comes with four AA batteries; the fifth-generation Pro has an integrated lithium-ion battery (Nuki Go ; Nuki Pro (5th Gen)). Do not use an older generation's power instructions without checking your model.

Keep a compatible backup accessible without the main phone. Nuki requires a smartphone with its app for initial setup even if the eventual user chooses an accessory (Nuki App & Web). A successful installation should leave everyone with a simple routine, not merely a completed settings screen.

Plan an installation around your household

Tell TFK who will use the door and which control you are considering, together with your Paris area and Nuki model. Photos or a short WhatsApp video can support the assessment and quote; do not send codes. Installation only starts at €189 incl. VAT, with a customer-supplied Nuki; the final amount is quoted, with one year of installation/workmanship aftercare for defects attributable to TFK.

Frequently asked questions

Can access be limited to a service visit?

Nuki documents individual permissions with a chosen duration and times. Check the settings and your model's configuration before relying on this for a visit.

Does a notification confirm my child got home safely?

It can report a lock action when its prerequisites are met. It does not confirm who passed through, current presence or safety. Agree on a form of contact suited to the actual need.
