Key points
- Value comes from a specific use, not a blanket security promise.
- Compatibility, power and backup need to be planned together.
1. Start with the task, not the product sheet
Write down what is difficult today. Does someone in the household arrive without a key? Does a service provider need access at set times? Do you want to let a relative in while you are away? These situations do not require identical setups. Nuki documents individual permissions with control over who has access, when and for how long (Nuki App & Web).
If your only problem is a stiff key or a rubbing door, start with a mechanical assessment. Adding a motor does not diagnose that fault. This guide is about deciding on equipment, not opening a door that is already jammed.
2. Check the door and the exact model
The current Go and Pro compatibility guides describe different mounting arrangements: the Go can fit over a compatible key or knob, while the Pro mounts over the inside key. The fifth-generation Pro specifies a maximum key thickness of 4 mm and a maximum protruding length of 37 mm (Nuki Pro — compatibility ; Nuki Go — compatibility). These are not universal limits for every Nuki model.
The European Ultra requires replacement with its supplied Universal Cylinder, so it is a different project from adding a device to an existing cylinder (Nuki Ultra ; Nuki Ultra — compatibility). Clearance around the handle and door frame also matters. The guides specify indoor-side installation. Have the cylinder and door operation identified before ordering, particularly where the handle must be operated as part of locking.
3. Separate nearby operation from remote access
According to Nuki, local Bluetooth communication can work without Internet between an authorised device and a powered lock (Nuki — local access). This does not mean you can operate it from your workplace without connectivity at the property. Remote access has separate requirements.
For the current models reviewed, Remote Access is included with the fifth-generation Pro and Ultra and purchased separately for the Go. A Matter/Thread arrangement may also require a suitable hub (Nuki Go ; Nuki Pro (5th Gen) ; Nuki — Remote Access). Nuki Web requires an account and remote access. Choose an option because you need its function, not merely because it appears on a feature list.
4. Arrange backup before changing your routine
A flat phone and a lock with no power are different problems. A compatible Fob or keypad can replace the phone for some tasks, but cannot power the lock. Nuki explains that an outside physical key remains usable with an appropriate emergency-function cylinder; the Ultra includes a cylinder with that function (Nuki Pro (5th Gen) ; Nuki Ultra). Have this checked on the actual installation without risking a lockout.
Decide where an accessible spare key will be kept and who can help if the phone is lost. Avoid making every backup depend on the same mobile or Internet connection. Nuki says a smartphone with its app is still required for initial setup and certain tasks, including calibration (Nuki App & Web).
5. Price the whole project before deciding
Budget separately for hardware, accessories, any cylinder change, remote options and fitting. TFK advertises installation only from €189 including VAT; you supply the Nuki. The final amount is set out in a quote after a video assessment or WhatsApp photos. One year of installation and workmanship aftercare covers defects attributable to TFK's installation, not every hardware failure (TFK — Nuki installation).
The right decision may be to install, repair the door first, or retain a mechanical lock. Choose what genuinely simplifies access for the actual users while keeping maintenance and backup understandable. Manufacturer documentation is neither approval of your particular door nor your insurer's agreement: ask the insurer about your own policy where relevant.

Will your door suit the Nuki you are considering?
Tell TFK your Paris area, the model you are considering and the task you want to simplify. Photos of the inside face, handle and cylinder, or a short WhatsApp video of normal operation, can support the assessment and quote. Do not send access codes. Installation only starts at €189 incl. VAT, with your own Nuki; the final price is quoted, with one year of installation and workmanship aftercare for defects attributable to TFK.
Frequently asked questions
Must the cylinder always be replaced?
Not always: Go and Pro can retain a compatible cylinder. The European Ultra uses its supplied Universal Cylinder. Emergency-function and dimensional checks still matter.
Can someone use it without their own smartphone?
Compatible accessories support some daily tasks without a phone. Nuki nevertheless requires a smartphone with its app for initial setup and certain operations, so decide who will handle them.
