Night, Sunday or public holiday call-out: what should you confirm before dispatch?

Start with the situation, not an arrival promise

Say where you are, what is wrong and whether anyone is in danger. For a door, explain whether it has merely slammed shut, is locked or you do not know; for a leak, explain whether water is still flowing and whether it can be stopped safely. The word “emergency” alone does not identify the trade or equipment required.

Then ask: “Can you attend this address now, and what estimated arrival time can you confirm?” At TFK, area, availability and timing are confirmed during the conversation. Do not turn an estimate into a guaranteed arrival time or read this guide as a promise of 24-hour, seven-day attendance.

Ask what is charged if a technician travels

Before dispatch, ask the travel charge, whether it is included in the quoted price and what remains payable if no work is ultimately carried out. Clarify any applicable paid-diagnosis or cancellation terms; do not assume either free attendance or a universal package.

Calling at night, on Sunday or on a French public holiday does not tell you the price. Service Public explains that prices are freely set and surcharge conditions must be communicated before work. Ask for the VAT-inclusive total for the situation described and keep a written record rather than relying on an isolated “from” price.

Confirm the actual case and the price boundaries

For a door that has simply slammed shut, TFK’s approved range is €120–€180 including VAT, with €180 as the maximum even at night. That ceiling applies to this service: it is not a universal price for every jammed door. A locked door, mechanism fault or hardware replacement needs separate identification.

A photograph helps assess the request. If on-site diagnosis changes the scope, the new amount must be stated and accepted before the affected work. At TFK, no extra work or surcharge is undertaken or billed without prior information and explicit approval. A range is not automatic approval to charge its maximum.

Restate the agreement before confirming dispatch

A useful confirmation includes the address, reported situation, proposed work, VAT-inclusive price or items still to be priced, travel charges and any applicable surcharge. Add the confirmed arrival estimate and the name or role of the person authorising the work. Do not share access codes in a public space.

You could write: “I confirm the request for this situation and scope at the agreed price. Please tell me before any work if diagnosis requires a different service.” This does not replace the documents the professional must provide before work; Service Public describes the information and detailed estimate to be supplied under French rules.

If nobody confirms attendance

Without a response or a clear agreement, do not assume a technician is on the way. Find another solution suited to the urgency and your safety; if someone is in danger, contact emergency services. For a leak, limit damage only through actions you can take safely and notify the relevant people.
